Vineland Research Directors
Applied Genomics
Dr. Daryl Somers
Research Director

Dr. Somers is Vineland's Research Director, Applied Genomics. He will provide the link between the genome sciences and plant breeding by translating whole genome sequence information into markers useful for selection of traits controlling consumer preference, disease resistance and yield in a wide range of horticulture crops. This research team will also contribute crop breeding and bioinformatics research to translate the genomics sciences into field and greenhouse products. Dr. Somers' Selected Publications
Consumer Insights and Product Innovation
Dr. Isabelle Lesschaeve
Research Director

Dr. Lesschaeve is Vineland's Research Director, Consumer Insights and Product Innovation. She is buildiing a team that will lead research initiatives to add margin to horticulture product through consumer research. The outcome of her research will have a major impact on the sensory characteristics (flavour, odour, texture) of horticulture products. Dr. Lesschaeve's Selected Publications
Horticultural Production Systems
Dr. Michael Brownbridge
Research Director

Dr. Michael Brownbridge earned his Honours B.Sc. in Agricultural Zoology and his Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK. His extensive research background in greenhouse technologies and pest management makes Dr. Brownbridge an invaluable asset to the Horticulture Production Systems here at Vineland. Through the development of his own lab, Dr. Brownbridge will leads a research team in the field of biocontrol.
