It’s an all-Canadian rose, bred for release on an all-Canadian birthday and intended to withstand virtually all Canadian climates. And at least one Southwestern Ontario nursery is anticipating high demand this spring for the Canadian Shield rose — one of the few home-developed and -grown bushes and probably the only one bred specifically for the frozen north. The Vineland Research Centre has chosen to release the first of its “49th Parallel” series of Canadian-developed roses during Canada’s sesquicentennial in 2017. Read more
