Looking to fast track your genomics needs? Look no more. Introducing Vineland’s first spin-off company Platform Genetics Inc. a trait development and genomics service company addressing the needs of seed companies and public-sector plant breeding programs.
The company’s core service, Deep Variant Scanning (DVS), enables clients to harness the power of reverse genetics for trait development and crop improvement. The patent-protected technology is rapid, cost-effective, suited to any crops and has no usability barriers. DVS is globally-recognized with minimal regulatory framework.
“Innovation and technology are playing increasingly important roles in helping Canada’s agriculture sector grow and prosper. Our government, through the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre, is committed to supporting initiatives like these which deliver ground-breaking advances that help seize new market opportunities,” said Marie-Claude Bibeau, federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
“Our government is pleased to be a part of the launch of such an innovative company through Vineland which will help our seed companies and growers,” said Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “Advancing agricultural genomics can improve crops and supports a strong agriculture industry in Ontario.”
Platform Genetics can help design, build and characterize genetic variant populations in a broad set of crops including vegetables, ornamentals, protein, fibre and oilseeds. Population development services include:
- Variance dose optimization
- Seed multiplication
- Population creation
