The Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Research and Innovation Cluster
In 2010, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada awarded funding to support a Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Research and Innovation Cluster. This cluster was created by the Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance (COHA) and Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland). COHA is the national organization representing flower, nursery, garden centres and landscape stakeholders; Vineland is a leading edge Canadian horticulture research and innovation institute, located in Ontario's Niagara Region. Vineland is administering the program and collaborating with researchers and organizations across the country on research priorities identified by industry.
Research conducted within the cluster will increase the profitability and competitiveness of the ornamental horticulture industry by targeting new market opportunities, addressing production challenges and utilizing innovation and technology to develop a more robust end product.
Cluster projects involve researchers from public and private research institutions from across six provinces. The cluster receives 75% of its funding from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Canadian Agri-Science Clusters Initiative and 25% from industry partners.
