What we’re looking for…

Reporting to the Research Scientist, Plant Production, this position conducts high-quality scientific research that advances Vineland’s Innovation Goals.

Knowledge and Skills

• Knowledge of growing various crops in commercial indoor production settings (e.g. high-wire cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, berries and floriculture).
• Knowledge of identifying general pests and pathogens of greenhouse crops.
• Experience designing research trials to support the commercialization of products or achieve specific objectives.
• Familiar with plant phenotyping and physiological evaluation methods.
• Experience interacting with cross-functional teams.
• Experience managing and overseeing multiple on-going projects simultaneously.
• Ability to formulate research hypothesis, design, and conduct experiments on different crops, production systems and practices.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute experiments with cross-functional teams that support the goals of Vineland’s Programs.
  • Conduct research activities in accordance with research proposals, protocols, schedules and deliverables.
  • Liaise and coordinate with the Greenhouse team on the set up, maintain and clean-up of crops in the greenhouse following biosecurity protocols.
  • Take direction from Program Directors and Research Scientists and be accountable for assigned research targets.
  • Contribute to project development, experimental design, statistical analysis, and proposal writing.
  • Manage the day‐to‐day activities associated with different projects, including monitoring and documenting progress, managing, analyzing and interpreting data.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Horticulture, Plant Biology or Plant Sciences with 2-3 years of research experience in areas of plant science, greenhouse production, or environmental horticulture science.
  • MSc in Horticulture, Plant Biology or Plant Sciences.
  • Strong background and research experience on plant production, plant production in fruit, vegetables and/or floriculture.
