Accounting Assistant

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for an Accounting Assistant to work in an industry-driven research environment.  Vineland is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Controller, the Accounting Assistant provides cross-functional financial and administrative support for the finance team assisting with data entry tasks including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and procurement. This position provides back-up functions to accounts payable, payroll and procurement as required. 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the payroll process on behalf of the organization
  • Assist with the accounts receivable and accounts payable processes
  • Assist with the procurement process on behalf of the organization
  • Provide back-up support to the finance team
  • Support relationships related to finance processes, including accounts payable, payroll and procurement
  • Provide support to the business development, operations and human resources teams on various duties as required

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in finance or accounting or other business related field
  • Payroll experience, designation (or enrolled in) with the National Payroll Institute is asset
  • Experience in a business environment with working knowledge of payroll legislation, bookkeeping, CRA Income Tax Act and Regulations, Employment Standards Act, applicable provincial/federal requirements
  • Procurement experience, Supply Chain Management Professional designation (or enrolled in) would be an asset
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle competing deadlines
  • Proficiency in MS Office products especially Excel
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounts payable principles
