Consumer and Market Researcher

Duties & Responsibilities

To develop and implement consumer and market research projects for the horticultural sector, as directed by the Director of Consumer Insights. This position will have shared responsibilities in consumer insights and business development to support new project development, client-led contract research, business/commercialization planning and identify market opportunities to support horticulture research and innovation.

Note:

  • client could be an external stakeholder, business, industry association or internal Vineland department that covers the full cost of the project expenses
  • consumer is the end-user of the product or information and could be any member of the supply/value chain

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Work with clients to understand their needs for market development and positioning with a consumer focus by understanding consumer trends and behaviour
  • Design projects and synthesize information to provide clients with credible data and clear recommendations to guide their business strategy
  • Manage planning, logistics, execution and analysis that draw on technical and support staff as required for the successful completion of contracts
  • Prepare research reports, publications and presentations of results to clients, academic and industry audiences 
  • Highly motivated with ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver to client’s needs and deadlines

Qualifications

  • PhD or MSc with three to five years of related experience in consumer and/or marketing studies or related fields
  • Experimental design in marketing and consumer studies
  • Quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Project management experience
  • Statistical analysis and data modelling experience with methods such as conjoint and regression analysis, choice experiments, willingness to pay and segmentation
  • Writing grant proposals and project reports
  • Experience in business and competitive intelligence including working with platforms such as Power BI is preferred

Additional desirable qualifications, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of the horticulture sector
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to attract, expand and uphold client relationships
  • An enthusiasm and interest in contributing to the growth of the business
