Director – Communications and Marketing

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a Director, Communications and Marketing to work in an industry-driven research environment.  Vineland is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. Located in Canada’s Niagara Region, on the traditional territory of Anishinaabeg, Ojibway/Chippewa and Haudenosaunee peoples, this territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Communications and Marketing is responsible for developing and implementing communications, marketing and brand strategies; defining and promoting the corporate brand; directing all communications with partners, stakeholders and businesses. 

Working with Vineland’s Senior Management Team, the Director Business and Client Development (BCD) and program leaders, the Director develops goals, strategies and implementation plans to execute a comprehensive and cohesive marketing plan for all of Vineland’s initiatives and to promote its research and innovation programs, capabilities and outcomes. Marketing goals include maintaining Vineland’s brand integrity and strategically positioning Vineland as a trusted source for research and innovation for the horticulture industry.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop a communications and marketing strategy which aligns with Vineland’s corporate strategy
  • Lead the development and implementation of communication plans and strategies to support business and operational activities while ensuring consistency in key messages and brand identity
  • Oversee the development, management and maintenance of all online communication vehicles, including but not limited to: Vineland’s website, emails and online social media (including LinkedIn, Twitter, blogs etc.)
  • Create a positive work environment and culture by developing, mentoring and coaching the Communications and Marketing team

Qualifications

With your strategic leadership experience in a senior communications and marketing role, you are able to merge science/engineering with business and leverage networks to advance relationships with industry partners.  You will hold a degree in journalism, public relations, communications or business administration along with:

  • Excellent working knowledge of communications and marketing principles, tactics and tools with strong strategic, analytic and creative judgment skills
  • Knowledge of science/innovation media
  • Experience in writing copy for on-line and hardcopy communication media
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple initiatives at once
  • Applied knowledge of leadership, management and team motivation principles and practices with demonstrated experience in managing people
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, team environment with quickly shifting priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate relationships across multiple departments
