Project Accountant

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a Project Accountant to work in an industry-driven research environment. The term of appointment for this contract position is until March 31, 2023.

Duties & Responsibilities

As a member of our Finance team, you will be reporting to the Controller. This position involves the collection and review of financial information and supporting documentation for a diverse range of projects.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes an advanced level of spreadsheet and accounting skills to prepare all required research financial reports
  • Reviews invoices and reimbursements for compliance with funder guidelines
  • Reconciles revenue versus budget, examine and resolve project deficits and surpluses
  • Serves as an active partner to project leaders, management, other departments and funding agencies
  • Meets with project leaders on a scheduled basis to review expenditures, variances and projections for future periods
  • Participates in and contributes to process improvements
  • Sets up projects in the financial system
  • Prepares reports and invoices as required to funding agencies
  • Follows up with outstanding project receivables
  • Assists the Controller in general corporate financial reporting by;
    • Preparing monthly project revenue accruals
    • Assisting with year-end working papers and account analysis
    • Providing back-up to purchasing and accounts payable functions
    • Carrying out activities as directed by the Controller

Qualifications

  • Four-year post-secondary degree in Finance required
  • Registered with CPA Ontario
  • Solid knowledge of MS Office (specifically Excel/Word/Outlook)
  • Good written communication skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Analytical, problem solving skills
  • Confidence and ability to work independently
  • Strong organizational, time-management and analytical skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with ability to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • At least two years of accounting experience
  • Experience working with confidential and sensitive information
  • Working knowledge of Small Enterprise GAAP
