Technical Assistant, Consumer Insights (summer student)

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (Vineland) is recruiting for a Technical Assistant, Consumer Insights (summer student) to work in an industry-driven research environment.  Vineland is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. Duties & Responsibilities

To assist with sample preparation, data collection and laboratory operations for sensory and consumer research projects.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with sensory and consumer studies including sample sourcing, preparation, presentation and clean-up for weekly sensory evaluation activities
  • Assist with off-site data collection on consumer research projects
  • Maintain clean and organized laboratory space
  • Monitor and maintain supplies inventory
  • Perform chemical and physical measurements of products (e.g. pH, titratable acidity, texture analysis)
  • Assist with project logistics, data formatting, basic statistical analysis and literature reviews
  • Assist with recruitment and scheduling of sensory/consumer tests
  • Assist with documentation tracking of sensory and consumer projects
  • Work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related regulations
  • Participate in corporate training
  • Other duties as required
  • May be subject to working evenings/weekends

Qualifications

  • Minimum grade 12 education
  • Preferably at least one year post-secondary education in biology, chemistry, food science, psychology or related field
  • Good laboratory skills
  • Safe food handling practices
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with data collection
  • Knowledge of sensory and/or consumer science
