Duties & Responsibilities

What we’re looking for…

Reporting to the Senior Research Technician, the Research Technician will provide technical assistance for sensory and consumer research activities within the Consumer, Sensory and Market Insights Program.  The role will be specifically responsible for sample preparation, logistics, record keeping, coordination and reporting for the various research projects. The Research Technician will have experience in kitchen management, food safety and culinary sciences.

What you’ll do…

  • Inventory and supply management for the labs and specific research projects; including maintaining organized laboratory spaces, subcontracting of facilities and equipment, and sourcing quotes.
  • Responsible for data management by ensuring all data files and final reports are saved to a central location upon completion of projects, and taking and uploading photos to document all sensory and consumer projects.
  • Assist with sensory and consumer studies with the Consumer, Sensory and Market Insights Program; including sample preparation, recipe development, data collection, reporting and ensuring safe food handling in preparation and serving.
  • Assist with recruitment and scheduling of participants for sensory/consumer tests.

Qualifications

What we need from you…

  • Undergraduate Degree or Diploma in biology, food science, culinary science or related field.
  • 1-3 years related work experience.
  • Current Ontario Food Handler Certification
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of food service and cooking in a commercial kitchen (asset)
  • Basic understanding of principles of sensory and consumer testing
  • Experience with data collection and statistical analysis
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Demonstrated safe food handling practices
  • Experience with food formulation/product development
