Ian Potter, PhD X

Ian Potter joined Vineland Research and Innovation Centre in 2019 as President and CEO. He is also President and CEO of Platform Genetics Inc., a spin-off company of Vineland.

Ian is an experienced executive who was recently Vice President, Engineering and Vice President, Business Management with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). He was also Chief Operating Officer at Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures (AITF). Ian has a successful track record working with many business models for research funding and commercialization as well as a strong experience developing and collaborating with a broad network of stakeholders.

He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary (Canada).

Tania Humphrey, PhD X

As Vice President, Research and Development, Tania Humphrey develops the strategy and guides the direction of Vineland’s innovation portfolio. She heads up a team of scientists and engineers and oversees the progress of R&D activities and decision making processes to ensure the research portfolio meets the needs of the horticulture sector. She also works closely with Vineland’s business development team to facilitate the movement of innovations out to the marketplace.   

Tania is an advocate for innovation in agriculture, emphasizing building connections between different industries and scientific disciplines. She is also Vice-Chair of the Agri-food Innovation Council Board of Directors. 

Tania holds a PhD in Plant Biology from the University of Queensland, Australia and in her early career held research positions with the University of Toronto and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada.

Chris McQueen, MBA X

As Vice President, Operations, Chris is responsible for Vineland’s operations, safety, human resources and facilities, including greenhouses and research farms.

Chris holds an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and has more than two decades of municipal management experience with Niagara Region and as a management consultant.

Most recently, McQueen built and led the management consulting firm Disruptive Ideology Inc. He worked with a diverse range of clients, assisting with strategic planning and execution, business plan development, financial sustainability planning, leadership development, performance management and promoting positive corporate cultures.

Phillip Stephan, MBT X

Phillip Stephan joined Vineland in 2020 as Vice President, Business and Client Development.

He spent almost a decade with Canadian-based Saskatchewan Research Council where he held various management roles, including Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Vice President of Agriculture and Biotechnology.

Phillip leads Vineland’s business and client development activities to strengthen relationships and build new partnerships for Vineland and its research teams and services.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural biotechnology from the University of Lethbridge and a Master’s of Science in Biomedicine from the University of Calgary.

Joanne Tessier, CPA, CMA X

Joanne Tessier joined Vineland Research and Innovation Centre in 2013 and was appointed Controller in 2019.

Joanne began her career in her family’s management accounting firm and gained experience in a diverse range of businesses and industries including small proprietorships, public accounting firms, international corporations and large municipalities. She has a strong background in systems implementation, strategic planning, managerial finance and financial reporting.

Joanne is a Certified Management and Chartered Professional Accountant in Ontario and holds diplomas in Management,  Municipal Administration and a certificate in Public Purchasing.
